Rizla Suzuki rider John Hopkins was extremely fast in Monday's open test sessions at Circuit de Catalunya. The US rider set an incredible time of 1.41.400 on the clocks, which is the unofficial laprecord at the Spanish track. Hopkins' lap was four tenths of a second faster than Rossi's pole position time.

The weather conditions in Spain weren't much different than it was during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend. Under sunny conditions the riders worked on the set-up of their bikes and the development of their tyres.

Red flags were caused by Dani Pedrosa, Makoto Tamada and Shinya Nakano when they fell of their bikes. Anthony West joined the Kawasaki team as their regular drivers are both injured. The Australian rider wasn't able to keep up with the pack, his time put him in 20th.

At Yamaha Andrew Pitt made his MotoGP return. At the opening race in Dubai he completed his first and only race this season for the struggling Ilmor GP team. With Rossi's Yamaha he set the 19th time.

On Tuesday the MotoGP riders will continue testing at Circuit de Catalunya.
