Rossi takes pole in Spain

Valentino Rossi took his third pole of the season in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix this afternoon. He lapped the Circuit de Catalunya in 1m41.840s to secure first place on the grid. 

Randy de Puniet overcame his injury problems to qualify a startling second place on the grid, just 0.061s behind Rossi while Dani Pedrosa qualified third for his home Grand Prix, 0.162s off the pace. 

Championship leader Casey Stoner will start from fourth, 0.277s off the pace ahead of John Hopkins, Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden.
