Bridgestone expects tough race in Spain

05 June 2007

The MotoGP teams are travelling to Barcelona this week for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Catalunya. For tyre manufacturer Bridgestone the race is always an interesting one to messure their quality with their opponents. Hiroshi Yamada, Bridgestone's Motorsport Manager, realises the race will be tough on their tyres.

"The Circuit de Catalunya has always been something of a tough track for Bridgestone," Yamada said. "The track surface is similar to places like Shanghai and Turkey and has previously been hard on our tyres due to the smooth, slippery nature of the asphalt. The biggest issue that we have faced in previous years has been the high levels of degradation over the course of the race distance and this has been our main area of focus ahead of this season's race."

And even though the race in Spain will be tough on tyres Bridgestone does believe it can bring a tyre that will get Stoner on the podium this weekend. Our aim for this year's event must simply be to give our riders a tyre that is competitive and, more importantly, durable enough to challenge for podium results. The huge numbers of passionate fans in Catalunya really add to the overall ambience of the weekend and we hope to contribute positively to an entertaining race weekend for them all," said Yamada.
