Stoner wins Turkish thriller
22 April 2007 / Results / PhotosCasey Stoner cruised to victory on his Ducati at the Turkish Grand Prix, in what was an exciting race. Toni Elias was an impressive second for Gresini after starting from tenth place whilst Loris Capirossi completed the podium trio on the second Ducati.
Stoner got ahead of Yamaha's Colin Edwards and Honda's Dani Pedrosa after the two crashed out at the start then a rare mistake from poleman Valentino Rossi allowed the Australian to seize the lead. The Italian consequently dropped down to fifth place before climbing back up to second. But then Rossi struggled for pace as he seemed to have a problem, ending up tenth.

Third to seventh places were very close with Capirossi only just managing to keep the queue of riders behind him to grant Ducati a double podium finish. Alex Barros, Marco Melandri and John Hopkins made up the top six, with Hopkins running as high as third before falling back down the order. He beat fellow countryman Nicky Hayden by just 0.05 seconds, with Randy de Puniet, Alex Hofmann and Valentino Rossi completing the top ten. Chris Vermeulen made it to eleventh after falling off his Suzuki following a collision with Pedrosa, Edwards and Olivier Jacque on the opening lap.
The result now means that Stoner leads the championship.
