Rossi grabs pole

Rossi grabs pole

21 April 2007 / Results

Valentino Rossi took pole position for tomorrow's MotoGP race in Turkey ahead of team-mate Colin Edwards. The result makes it a Fiat Yamaha one-two, whilst third and fourth slots will be occupied by Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa and Ducati's Casey Stoner respectively.

Loris Capirossi was just behind his Ducati team-mate in fifth, followed by the second works Honda of Nicky Hayden in sixth. Capirossi went fastest early on in the session only for fellow countryman Rossi to usurp his Ducati at the top of the timesheets. Midway through the session Randy de Puniet took provisional pole with a time sixth tenths faster than Rossi's, only for Rossi to do exactly the same in the final quarter of qualifying to reclaim pole.

The Frenchman's Kawasaki had no reply and ended up eighth fastest just behind John Hopkins on the Rizla Suzuki. In the dying moments, Capirossi came back with a second fastest time before Pedrosa, Stoner and Edwards all knocked the Italian further down the order on their last laps.
