Pedrosa fastest on day 3 in Qatar

Dani Pedrosa ended up fastest on the third day of the first official test of 2007 in Qatar. The rider put in a late burst to grind out a time of 11.55.471, which would have put him on pole position for last season's race. The Spaniard's fastest lap also meant Honda topped the timesheets ahead of Yamaha, who was fastest during the first two days.

John Hopkins finished second quickest with a time three tenths slower than Pedrosa's. However, the Anglo-American missed out the afternoon session after he crashed his Suzuki heavily. Hospital scans reveal he has a fractured scaphold in his hand. He will unfortunately miss next week's test in Jerez but is almost certain to be ready to ride for the first race of the season on 10 March.

Valentino Rossi ended up third quickest and it was the first time at this test that he beat team-mate Colin Edwards, who was fifth fastest. Alex Hoffman was fourth and the fastest of the Ducati riders. World champion Nicky Hayden seemed to be still lacking in fitness after his shoulder injury and was almost two seconds off his team-mate Pedrosa. It has not been a great test for the American who crashed twice yesterday.
